The University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point will launch the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology (WIST) on Wednesday, September 8th. This new source for sustainability solutions will provide business and industry in our state with information based on university research. Rep. Dave Obey, who helped secure major federal support for WIST, along with UWSP Chancellor Bernie Patterson and Deans Christine Thomas and Christopher Cirmo are all scheduled to offer remarks on the institute’s potential impact.
Paul Fowler, WIST’s executive director, will be introduced at the launch event as well. Paul Fowler had led the Welsh Institute for Natural Resources, based at Bangor University, where he led efforts in developing commercial applications of sustainable technologies based on renewable materials.
“It’s our vision that one day it will be impossible to travel through Wisconsin and not see evidence of WIST in our communities and their businesses and public services,” said UWSP Chancellor Bernie Patterson in a UWSP press release.
