Stevens Point Youth Recognized Nationally

Local Boys & Girls Club member Deontae Davis has been chosen as 1 of 33 young artists from around the country to be recognized for his artistic talent. His winning piece will be displayed at the Boysdeontae & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. A replica of his painting will travel to numerous regional and national conferences throughout the year.

deontaes-winning-art-pieceAfter showcasing his painting at the annual Fine Arts Exhibit in Plover, Deontae’s piece moved on to a regional competition. It will then go to the National Fine Arts Exhibit at BGCA headquarters, where a panel of professional artists judged hundreds of pieces artwork. These pieces are from around the nation including drawings, paintings, printmaking, collages, mixed media, and sculptures.

Deontae, 19 years old, has been interested in art since Elementary school. Both his older cousin Andrew and brother Dalvin share a love for artwork. He looks up to both of them. He continues to pursue new opportunities to use his artistic abilities and express himself through his work.

Deontae loves to create drawings.

However, his nationally-recognized piece is a painting he created in his first-ever painting class last year. Due to the amount of support for his passion, Deontae hopes to pursue art as a career.

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (BGCPC) is proud to support teens like Deontae as they pursue their dreams and prepare for their great futures. BGCPC offers programming in five core areas including the Arts, Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, and Education & Career Development.

The goal is to give every child the opportunity to participate in programs and activities. This gives them a sense of belonging, engages them in positive lifestyle, activities, prepare them academically and socially for the future. Simply put, it’s the perfect place for kids to be themselves.
