STEVENS POINT – Sentry Insurance announced today that the SentryWorld’s sports center facility will undergo extensive renovation beginning immediately. The organization’s goal is to re-open the facility in conjunction with SentryWorld golf course, also currently undergoing renovation.
“We are renovating both the south side of the building which houses the pro shop, restaurant, meeting and banquet space, as well as the north side of the building which includes multi-purpose sports courts, said Stephanie Smith, Sentry Director of Corporate Communications. “SentryWorld has been known as a great place for sports, recreation, dining, golf, weddings and banquets. The renovated SentryWorld will take it to a whole new level.”
“This will be incredible. We’re very excited to offer the community completely re-imagined and re-vitalized facility with a real Wisconsin flavor,” said Susan Placzek, SentryWorld’s Director of Hospitality. “This will be a place you’ll want to enjoy with family and friends.”
SentryWorld was built in the early 1980’s based on the vision of John Joanis, Sentry’s CEO at the time. “John Joanis wanted to enhance the quality of life for the community as well as Sentry’s employed associates and retirees, said Sentry Board Chairman, President and CEO Pete McPartland. “The renovation honors that vision and reaffirms Sentry’s commitment to the community.”
Sentry selected John Sather of Swaback Partners in Scottsdale, Arizona as the architect of the building renovation. The golf course renovation is being led by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and Jay Blasi. Jones designed the original golf course 30 years ago.
McPartland said the company will seek community input on potential uses for SentryWorld.
“We want to engage local residents and get a sense of how they want to use SentryWorld,” McPartland said. “I think the community will be extremely proud of the re-imagined SentryWorld – both the facility and the golf course.”
The closing will affect a small number of full-time employees, as well as the seasonal and part time workforce. When reopened, the company expects to expand the SentryWorld staff, Placzek said.
