Real Wage Growth (or Lack Thereof): Part 2 – The Long Run: 1979-2018

In 2019 the Congressional Research Service (CRS) released an analysis of real wage trends over the period 1979-2018. The goal of the CRS is to provide nonpartisan analysis on relevant policy issues and legal analysis to committees and members of both the House and Senate, regardless of party affiliation. The CRS report uses data collected from the Current Population Survey, a nationally representative sample of workers, to estimate real hourly wages at the 10th, 50th, and 90th income percentiles, and analyzes how real wages changed over time.
