Leadership Portage County – Government

October’s LPC session focused on Portage County’s Public Safety & Government.

LPC participants began the day with the State Legislature Panel; Senator Patrick Testin and Representative Katrina Shankland. Each panelist had an opportunity to talk about how they began their careers in politics and allowed participants to ask questions. There was a wide range of topics discussed.
We then had an opportunity to break into 3 small groups for round table discussions with our local government representatives; City of Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza, Portage County Executive Chris Holman and Portage County Towns Association Chair Mike Pagel. Each small group discussion varied in topics.

Participants also heard from the Community Resource Officer from the Portage County Sherriff’s Office; Deputy Eric Koepsell on the Citizen’s Academy. A few participants seemed very interested in participating in the academy.

The day ended with the group traveling to the Stevens Point Police Department for a tour led by Officer Kristi Ahrens. Participants explored the spacious new location.
