The Department of Workforce Development has released their “July Local Job, Employment Numbers” for metro areas and counties across the state. Secretary Baumback is quoted stating, “the local preliminary data for July show the impact of the national economic slowdown (is) reaching many parts in Wisconsin.”
Portage County ranked 42nd among counties in unemployment rates with a rate of 7.4 percent, down by 0.6 percent from June’s report. Stevens Point ranked 14th among Wisconsin cities dropping to 8.9 percent from 9.6 percent in June. Unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted.
