Having already established itself as a shopping destination for women in downtown Stevens Point, Girls in Pearls Boutique has expanded to serve men as well.
The business, located at 1016 Main St., has teamed with Jim’s Formal Wear to offer men’s tuxedo rentals. Margaret O’Connor Govett, who opened the Girls in Pearls in June 2012 after retiring from her previous job as a chemistry lab manager at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, said she started offering rentals about a month ago and her husband, Bob Govett, is managing that part of the business.
Started in 1922 as Davis Family Clothing in 1922 in Trenton, Illinois, Jim’s Formal Wear serves over 5,000 menswear stores, bridal shops and businesses like Girls in Pearls throughout the country. The business currently carries nearly 250,000 tuxedos and employs 500 full-time staff, with an additional 500 seasonal employees for prom and wedding seasons.
O’Connor Govett said she’s able to offer tuxedos for sale as well as for rental. There’s everything from the traditional tuxedo to linen suits for beach weddings, and customers also have a “Build a Tux” option where they can choose the style, color and fit of their tuxedo along with accessories like shoes and socks. O’Connor Govett said customers are asked to make an appointment to come into the store, where she has a computer station if they would like to build their tuxedo there.
Girls in Pearls is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, please call 715-345-7819, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or find them online at www.girlsinpearlsboutique.com or on Facebook.
