Ciderboys claims eight total medals
Ciderboys, the Stevens Point Brewery’s line of hard ciders, recently claimed six gold medals and two silver medals in Tastings.com’s most recent hard cider judging, the most of any cider maker.
Gold medals went to summer seasonals Peach County and Pineapple Hula, Strawberry Magic, fall seasonal Cranberry Road, winter seasonal Mad Bark, and spring seasonal Raspberry Smash. Silver medals went to First Press and Winter seasonal Grand Mimosa.
Julie Birrenkott, marketing manager for the Point Brewery, said Ciderboys have now won 31 medals including 18 gold and 7 silver.
Tastings.com is operated by the Chicago-based Beverage Testing Institute, which uses a proprietary blind tasting methodology based on a 100-point rating scale. Scores of 90 to 95 points are “exceptional” gold medal winners. Scores of 85 to 89 are “Highly Recommended” silver medal winners. The BTI’s judges are restaurateurs and beverage retailers, writers and buyers who are trained in the tasting methodology and sample the ciders in a special tasting room designed to minimize external factors.
The BTI also sponsors the World Cider Championships and the World Beer Championships. Peach County, Mad Bark and First Press earned gold medals for “exceptional” taste and quality in the 2015 World Cider Championships.
