How long have you lived/worked in Portage County?
I’ve lived here for just over five years-I moved here after graduating from UW-La Crosse to join my soon-to-be husband-and I’ve worked in the county for about two years.
What do you feel is your impact on the community, either personally or professionally?
I’ve gotten to know so many people professionally that I now consider personal friends, I get the privilege of volunteering throughout the community, and I get to work for an amazing school system that helps children and their families succeed in life. My fiancé is a state senator, so we have many incredible opportunities to meet and interact with so many different people. We are so blessed to be a part of such a special place in this state.
What is the most rewarding professional or student experience you have had?
Working in fundraising for a nonprofit, private school system is so rewarding. I get to go to work every day to help support the education of many kids who will be the future of our community. Seeing the smiles on their faces in the hallways of our schools makes it all worth it.
What is something you hope to accomplish in the next year?
Continuing to deepen my community roots both personally and professionally, by volunteering more, learning more, and even something as simple as experiencing new places in town like local shops and restaurants that we haven’t been to. I would also love to train my dog Reilly to become a therapy dog.
Why did you get involved with Ignite?
Being relatively new to the area, I wanted a way to get to know other people and my community more. It’s a great way to network, learn about the community, and get involved.
What advice would you give to other young professionals looking to make their mark?
Step out of your comfort zone. Take advantage of every opportunity thrown your way. You never know the people you might meet, the doors that will be opened for you, or the experiences you’ll have that will lead to something bigger and better down the road.
Do you volunteer or belong to other organizations?
Through work, I’m also a member of the Portage County Business Council and enjoy participating in some of their educational and networking programs.
What is a little-known fact about yourself?
I come from a family with a long history of redheads. My brother, three cousins, my dad, my aunt, my grandma, and even some great aunts and uncles all have red hair-or did before it grayed! Growing up, people used to always think my cousin and I were twins, just because we both had red hair and freckles. Even my dog has a little red color to her hair!
